North American musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning protocol of the hip, knee, ankle, and foot: update of a Delphi consensus study

A North American rheumatology consensus on tiered-mastery designation for anatomic views was developed in 2011 course and fellowship teaching. This study updates the lower extremity joint scanning protocols aiming to inform musculoskeletal ultrasound curriculum development College of Rheumatology affiliated Fellowship Programs. Three Delphi rounds were conducted reach tiered-level mastery hip, knee, ankle, foot views. The survey disseminated (Qualtrics™) 101 potential participants with teaching experience. High agreement defined as ≥ 85% final tier having >50% preferred tier. Response changes evaluated by McNemar’s chi-square test. Consensus regarding designations reached 80% knee (anterior transverse suprapatellar, medial, lateral longitudinal) 2 ankle posterior transverse) achieved upgrades 1 from 2. sacroiliac hip downgraded 3. longitudinal view added a designation. Updated support modifications reflecting current methods delivered rheumatologists performing point care that may educators involved ultrasound.
